AAPT Summer 2025

Join us this week if you’re going to the AAPT Summer Meeting 2025 in Washington DC.

On Monday August 4, in the morning Steven will be presenting his talk Defining success in science multimedia communication courses [PDF], an update on his research on the physics senior seminar course on scientific communication. Then in the afternoon Abigail will be presenting their talk Can Students Solve for x: Introductory Physics Students’ Approaches​ to Problem Solving [PDF], on their work on problem solving in intro physics, focusing on numerical vs symbolic representations.

If you’re also staying for PERC 2025, then don’t miss Steven’s [PDF] and Abigail’s [PDF] posters in the evening of Wednesday August 6.

Emily wins Immel award!

On Wednesday during the 2025 Spring Sciences Celebration, Emily was presented with the Eric R. Immel Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching, an award that recognizes exemplary teaching in foundational undergraduate courses. Congratulations!!

Steven wins GTA of the Year award!

After winning the 2025 GTA of the Year award for the School of Physics, Steven has now gone on to win the campus-wide CTL GTA of the Year award!

He is the latest in the line of award-winning TAs to work with the PER group at Georgia Tech, including Abigail Creyts (Physics UTA of the Year, 2024), Emily Alicea-Munoz (Physics and Georgia Tech Graduate Student Instructor of the Year, 2017), and Danny Caballero (Georgia Tech GTA of the Year, 2009).
